“The Africa Quaker Archive: Past, Present, and Future”, Nov 13

Saturday, November 13, 11 AM    

The 2021 Annual Meeting and Lecture for the Friends Historical Society will be held online.  “The Africa Quaker Archive:  Past, Present, and Future” will be offered at 11 AM, followed by the Business Meeting at 12:15 PM. 

Program speakers include Oscar Lugusa Malande addressing the development and growth of Quakerism as part of the larger Christendom in the African Context; Dr. Robert Wafula, speaking about the history of Friends Theological College, his vision for the archives and challenges and success thus far; and Mary Crauderueff, Haverford College Curator of the Quaker Collections, speaking about the roles and relationships for international partnerships in Quaker archives. 

East African Quakerism has a long and rich history, starting in 1902.  The Africa Quaker Archive was established at Friends Theological College in Kaimosi, Kenya, in January 2020, to gather, document, and preserve key pieces of African Quaker history.
