Fall Study Series, Sept 18

Newton Meeting has just finalized its fall study series, which focuses on historic figures who influenced the Quaker tradition.  We meet after worship on the third Sunday of every month:  Meeting for Worship is from 10:30-11:30, and the study series is from 11:30-12:30.  The fall schedule is as follows:
On Sunday, September 18th, we will finish discussing “Valiant Friend”, a biography of the life of Lucretia Mott.  We will also begin discussing “Essential Writings” of Rufus Jones.  Here is a brief introduction to Jones’ Life:  https://www.quakersintheworld.org/quakers-in-action/230/Rufus-JonesThe book is called:  Rufus Jones: Essential Writings (Modern Spiritual Masters) by Rufus Matthew Jones, introduction by Kerry S. Walters.  It can be purchased through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Thrift Books, Cokesbury and Walmart for $15.00 or less.

On Sunday, October 16th, we will finish the book by Rufus Jones and hear from meeting member Francine Cheeks, who worked for a number of years at the American Friends Service Committee that Jones helped to found (toward the end of his life, Jones was the representative of the AFSC in Stockholm when the Quakers were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1947 for their work during WWII).

On Sunday, November 20th, we will be reading a selection from one of the mystical traditions that Jones said influenced his conception of “inner light”.  Reading TBA.
